'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the police once more.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
