Nvidia CEO Voices Disappointment Over Reported China Semiconductor Purchase Restriction

The head of the leading chipmaker has expressed that he is "let down" by claims indicating that Chinese authorities has ordered its top technology companies to cease purchasing the company’s AI processors.

The executive added that he plans to remain "patient" in responding to this move by China’s internet regulator.

"We are restricted in many markets, but we accept that," he informed reporters on midweek.

The semiconductor leader, which earlier faced a ban on selling its most advanced processors to China, had seen that ban overturned in July.

Under a previous deal, Nvidia must pay 15% of its China-based income to the US government.

On Wednesday, reports surfaced that China’s Cyberspace Administration had allegedly instructed tech companies to halt use of Nvidia processors developed specifically for the local audience.

Stock of the American firm declined by over 1% in premarket trading.

Mr Huang stated that he would "support the US" as they work to address international challenges, and planned to express the same stance if questioned during meetings that evening.

The firm recently achieved status as the pioneering business globally to surpass a $4tn market cap.

Its chips are integral to the global AI boom, running server farms around the globe.

The Chinese government, on the other hand, strives to rival US leadership in AI and has been developing domestic semiconductors as part of its wider technology strategy.

Leading China-based companies such as DeepSeek had previously purchased the company’s processors prior to the new import restriction.

The chipmaker was among multiple American tech firms that revealed investments in the United Kingdom as following a joint technology pact.

The commitment includes supplying chips for the a major data centre scheduled to launch in north-east England, in collaboration with OpenAI.
