Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
